My theory of social evolution!

Hurrah for smart looking blog names.
I noticed recently that I have become a lot more social, and have just "come out of my shell."

Sure, part of this is the whole 'growing up' thing, but I also think it is also due something else.

I am, in a single word, an intellectual.
Because of this it made it hard for me to relate to the general populace.
However, there are many people whom I can relate to, which can be seen happening quite increasingly today.

I think this is due to a type of 'dilution' that is present when there are many people in a confined area (such as a school)

To illustrate this, I will look at 3 times in my college years.
3rd form, 5th form and 7th form.

During third form, I was overwhelmed by new people, however I soon developed my place as an intellectual. But frustratingly enough, I could only find one person to relate to.
This diagram illustrates this:

As you can see, the people I could relate to were out there, but they were lost in the massive amount of other students.

Year 11 came and I had opened up a little:

Compare this with the year 9 diagram. As you can see the worst of the "riff-raff" has left the school and interactions have begun with people I can relate with. However, they are few and far between.

Year 13 and thins look a lot better:

As you can see, the year is considerably smaller.
However, notice the main feature. The like-minded individuals are in the same classes.
This has allowed me to open up so much more.

So there you have it, a theory on social evolution.
I will leave you with....... A Seal!!!

A lot to be said.

Wow, what a busy few days I have had.
I could post a nice, long-winded blog about my exploits, but i know you don't want to read that so I will keep it short and simple.
  • Auckland University Open Day on Saturday was a refreshing experience, it gave me perspective, and changed my career decisions. (I was going to do medicine, but now I'm doing a BSc in Physics and Computer Science.)
  • More on Auckland Uni, this time about the overall atmosphere of the place. I really feel at home there, it is such a vibrant place where much learning can take place. I can't wait till next year.
  • Sunday I had a Chemistry Practical.. I got to wear the lab coat mwahahahahaha. That went well and I got the results I expected.
  • Monday, and off to Uni once again. This time for lectures in:
    • How to Analyse a film.
    • Cinematography and Mise en ScĂ©ne
    • King Lear
  • All the English Lectures were very informative, I got 19 pages of notes between them.. Whew!
Now it is Monday Night, Tuesday lurks around the corner. What experiences I will have then, who knows?

Philosophy

"Is [God] willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then is he malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" (Epicurus)

Epicurean philosophy is essentially the precursor to modern science.

And yes, i do have a Classics assignment and am getting distracted.

Evil Plans A-Brewing

Twas' a night before school
And all through the land
Not a creature was stirring
Except a man named Aamir

He was playing poker,
showing off to the Asian Girls,
Meanwhile he was neglecting,
His school work of old.

To be continued....

Yes, Evil plans brew.

Until then enjoy this delightfully addictive song.

Identity, or a lack thereof.

Wow... I havn't blogged in a while.

Anyway the thought on my mind at the moment is my lack of identity.

There are all these social 'niches' that I feel suit me, but I never quite fit into them.
Im too outgoing to be Emo, too shy to be a leader, too hardcore rock to be classical, too geeky to be hardcore rock, and so on so forth.

So where does that leave me?
I would like a sense of Identity but I have no niche in which to occupy.

Thoughts?

Marching Orders!

Before I start this post, I would like to follow up on my last. Her mother said yes so I now officially have a ball date!

The next part is a bit negative.
War has broken out!
No, it's not between America and Country X, It is between me and my manager.
Tis the battle of Pak'n Save.
The story, well I as of today have been demoted, no warning, and the excuse I got was contrary to the opinion of the Senior Supervisor I work with.
I don't know why this happened, but I discovered the Supervisor I work with recently announced that she was voluntarily stepping down to become a full time operator. So this puts more pressure on the manager, And it seems I got hit with the edge of the bat on this one, whether it be through association with the supervisor, or just unluckiness.
However, I am NOT going to let this matter rest, I feel like I have been wronged, and I even have the support of one of the Duty Managers, Who also feels that this demotion was inappropriate.
Even If I don't win this war, I will be satasfied by the fact that they will know I will no longer stand for their shit, and that if I am not treated fairly and justly, I will let them know it.

My arsenal includes Support, Examples of Hipocracy, Inconsistency and failure to ask the opinion of the people I actually work with.

I have seen some bad supervisors in my time, and I'm not saying that I'm perfect.
But NEVER have I seen a supervisor demoted. Even for doing something major as not correctly checking dockets and allowing a thief to trick them.

Step 1 Complete.... Prepare for Step 2

Well I have done it, I asked a girl to the ball and she said Yes!!!!
The problem, she is a home schooler, and as some of us know, they have a tendency to have overprotective parents.
So now her Mother has to be convinced.
She knows me, and likes me as far as I can tell, but whether that is enough. We will have to wait and see.

Dragonforce '07

17th May 2007... 10:00pm
After listening to the two guest bands I knew the moment was coming.
I could feel my heart racing.
The tension was unbearable.
Then started what so far has been the best moment of my life.
Enter Dragonforce.

They played all my favourite songs, the pure energy in the room was overwhelming.
At one point ZP Theart (Lead Singer) looked directly at me and pointed.
Next thing I know a water bottle was heading towards me, the other fans were vicious, I almost got pushed over the railing (I was upstairs.. stupid underage area ><) I missed catching the bottle, a guy 3 people along from me managed to stretch out far enough to catch it first. But it is not water bottles that matter. I got to see one of my favourite bands live. Next Goal... MCR Live =]

Randomness of the Day 03/04/07: Drive-Thru Pharmacy

Ok guys.. this is going to be a feature of my blog.
A link, pic or other thing that is either cute, funny or makes you think WTF??
Oh, and the title may be a bit deceiving as this WILL NOT be posted daily.

You have been warned.
BW.

Todays feature:
The Drive-Thru Pharmacy, I Lol'd at this.

As they say, time marches on....

Well here we are, the first term has only two more days left.
Where does the time go???
The school show and comments from one of my friends has made me realise that I have very little time left at secondary school, in fact my final exams begin in 7 months... it is not far away.
On the subject of leaving school, we had a seminar from the University of Auckland today at lunch. (Free Pen!!!)
The prospectus we got given made me realise how much of a rich man's game university study is.
Im planning to take a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), it is a six year course that costs $10,780 Per Annum, that means my total expense on tuition alone will be
$64,680!!!
Sigh.
On the bright side I'm looking forward to the new experiences and getting out into the wider world.

Welcome one and all!

Hear ye, Hear ye!
Today be the official opening of Brent's Random Place of Randomness.
Tis a place where I may rant, moan, and otherwise mock the world and all it stands for.
Oh, and positive stuff will be posted too.
Why am I making a blog you ask??
Well, ye dirty wench, it is because Captain Jonathan is blogging, and it inspired me.

Till next time, keep the scurvy at bay.
Captain Brent.

(Don't worry, not all my posts are going to be pirate themed, so your sanity is safe... for now...)
